Connecting to a dApp: the browser and WalletConnect

A dApp is a website that works with a wallet. Smartable offers two ways to use one, both under Settings → Experimental, because they are still being refined:

• dApp browser — opens the site inside Smartable, with the wallet built in. It works on EVM networks.
• WalletConnect — connects a site open somewhere else, such as a browser on your computer. Choose Scan to connect and scan the site's code, or paste its connection link.

What connecting gives a site

Connecting shows the site your address — and with it, everything that address has ever done on a public network. It does not let the site move anything. Every signature and every transaction still reaches a review screen in Smartable, and nothing happens until you confirm it.

Before you confirm a request

• Check the site's address, not its name or logo. A request labelled Calls itself is quoting the site's own claim about who it is.
• Read what the review says will change — what you send and what you receive.
• Be careful with requests to sign a message or typed data. They are not transfers, but some of them authorise one later, such as a token allowance or an order.
• If the review says a contract call cannot be read, the effect is more than a simple transfer. Do not confirm what you cannot explain.

Sites that impersonate others

Smartable checks sites against published lists of sites that impersonate Web3 services. The browser warns before it shows one, and signing stays blocked there even if you look anyway. WalletConnect refuses to connect to a known scam site at all.

A site missing from those lists is not proven safe. The lists catch known copies, not new ones.

Disconnecting

Disconnect any site you no longer use, do not recognise, or reached through an unexpected link. Connected sites are listed in the dApp browser; WalletConnect sessions are listed on the WalletConnect screen.

Disconnecting does not cancel a token allowance you already granted. For that, see token approvals.
