Unlocking Smartable: password, PIN and quick unlock

Smartable opens with its own password, a six-digit PIN of your own, or your fingerprint or face — never with your phone's lock-screen code. Wrong attempts are slowed down, and the wallet is never wiped for them.

Smartable opens three ways, and only three:

  • Your password. It encrypts the wallet on this phone and always opens it.
  • A PIN. Six digits of your own — not your phone's code.
  • Quick unlock. Your fingerprint or face, where the phone supports it.

Your phone's own lock-screen code is not one of them. Smartable never offers it and never accepts it: if quick unlock is unavailable or cancelled, the app falls back to your PIN or password.

Change any of these under Settings → Security.

Locking

The wallet locks itself after five minutes untouched. Settings → Security lets you choose a different time, or Never. Lock now in Settings locks it at once.

Wrong attempts

Repeated wrong attempts are slowed down, with a wait that grows each time. Changing the phone's clock does not shorten it.

The wallet is never wiped because of wrong attempts. Wiping would let anyone holding the phone destroy money they cannot take — and the answer to a forgotten password is your recovery phrase, not a reset.

When quick unlock or the PIN stops working

If the phone's security key was reset — for example after you add or remove a fingerprint or face — quick unlock and the PIN go with it. Unlock with your password once, then set them up again.

Password for large sends

Under Settings → Security → Password for large sends you can set an amount. Sends above it ask for your password rather than only your PIN.

If you no longer know the password, see I forgot my password.

What the app shows

  • Quick unlock did not work this time. Unlock with your password, which still opens this wallet.
  • Your device key was reset. Unlock with your password once to restore quick unlock.

Security note

Never share your recovery phrase, private key, password or device PIN. Smartable will never ask for them or ask you to sign a transaction to “verify” or “recover” your wallet.
