Three different costs sit inside one card purchase, and they are usually quoted as one number somewhere else.
- The partner's fee. MoonPay or Coinbase charge for taking a card payment and for the risk that comes with it. Smartable shows this figure on the confirm step, in your currency, before you approve.
- The exchange rate. A rate can carry a margin without any line item naming it. Compare the amount of crypto you will receive against a public price, not the fee percentage.
- The network fee. Delivering the coins to your address is a transaction on a chain, and chains charge for that.
What we earn
Partners pay us when funds move through them. That is stated on the disclosures page, and it is why the button we earn on is never the highlighted one: a wallet that visually pushes you toward its own revenue is not advising you.
Cashing out
The same partners in reverse, paying to your bank account, with their fee disclosed the same way. The exit exists next to the entrance on purpose — a wallet that only makes it easy to put money in is a trap with good design.
